Have you ever wondered what online gambling will look like in the future? Is modern online casinos all we can possibly get or may there be a room for improvement? In fact quite a lot of gambles are getting tired of traditional casinos. And it’s true not only for online ones, but even Las Vegas has become less popular destination for gamblers.
But there is a new tendency in the iGaming industry to be excited about – VR technologies. Some are skeptical about them. But the majority of experts and gamblers see them as a quantum jump in modern gambling routine.
VR techs are not new. They have been used for a long time to enable and enrich various spheres of modern life: from education to medicine. As the rest of online experiences gambling is getting more and more true to life. So introducing VR to online gambling seems nothing but logical, considering how well their introduction played out in video games and online gaming.
It is just another logical step in the evolution of the industry. Nowadays colorful graphic and user-friendly interface simply are not enough, gamblers want more. More personalized experience, better authenticity, more face-to-face communications and custom-made features.
That is all VR casinos are about. As their major goal is in making gambling experience more exclusive and comfortable than ever before. In doing so people behind VR technologies show a lot of understanding of how the gambling works from the user perspective. And it plays out well.
Players comfort is the major concern of the VR developers. So everything is done for the gamblers to feel great inside the game environment at all times. The first and foremost goal is to make the game environment as comfortable as possible. And only when the immersion feels complete and natural, extra features are added not to disrupt the balance. There is plenty of extras, by the way, visual fidelity and movement mechanics had gone a long way and now show results beyond any expectations.
VR techs look very promising customer support-wise. Via VR features Casino operators will gain more access to their gamblers. They will be able to engage gamblers into direct communication, talk to them and build the personal relationship with them. All the player and especially the VIPs will be handled with much more care and efficiency. This level of service is now available only in live casino venues. Online-casinos customer satisfaction level will skyrocket.
The big change is expected in analytics as well, as VR allows watching players in real time, allows to see their reactions and get feedback. Basically none of which is possible at the moment.
That sounds really promising, but still right now the choice of online VR casinos is quite limited. And it’s quite hard to understand why. VR had been introduced to the mass crowd some 20 years ago, and it was promising then as it is now. Judging from the prospects it should have been everywhere by now, including online gambling. But its not. There is a disappointingly small total of three semi-VR casinos. You might have heard of SlotsMillion, Mr Green and Poker VR that offer special VR rooms to anybody with VR headsets.
So far VR gamblers’ involvement is quite limited: they may play some 3D slots, may communicate with the dealer live and may see other players. Right now a great work is being done to allow VR players to communicate to each other freely. The social aspect of gambling is what online casinos are missing and probably won’t ever be able to achieve, but it is brought to life by VR techs.
Such little progress over 20 years looks disappointing. But in fact the improvement is outstanding and most experts associate the future of only gambling almost exclusively with VR. As it is the only technology with enough potential and expertise to enhance the gameplay and bring customer service to the new level.
There are just a few challenges to deal with. What are they? The major problem with VR is that the mass market consumers cannot afford it. The price tag for VR gadgets is quite high. Check the prices for the most advanced and popular choices in the market: Facebook’s Oculus Rift and Samsung’s Gear VR headsets. Hard to imagine such prices successfully hitting the mass market.
Despite the fact that VR has been around for quite a while, the prices haven’t gone down a bit. That is now the major concern of the manufactures along with making their produce appealing to the mass crowd.
Right now there is a lot of competition going on in the field, and it promises nothing but benefit for the customers. The prices are expected to go down over the next few years. We expect mobile VR headsets to become widely used and more affordable.
To stimulate interest in the new produce, some manufactures set up VR promotion campaigns. The one by Samsung was outstandingly generous. They gave away headsets for S7 smartphone. Marketing perks played out well. Now customers are more familiar with the technology and are interested in its immense gaming possibilities. At this rate in a year or so VR would become the most popular gambling experience on the market.
This would be the second chance for VR on the market, and hopefully VR would nail it. 20 years ago VR had failed for perfectly understandable reasons: the mismatch of consumers’ expectation and the offer. At the time VR technically was not good enough, but consumers expected some sci-fi miracles from it. The real VR experience had nothing to do with movies, people even got sick and nauseous from using headsets.
Now the situation has changed and users’ feedback shows that the progress technology has made is outstanding. It is so impressive, that in five or ten years VR might be able to mimic the land-based casinos completely bringing the gambling entertainment to the whole new level.
Business Insider named 2020 the breakthrough year for VR technology. It is expected to become more affordable and more popular among online gamblers as well as gamers. Thus giving VR soft developers enough consumers interested in their platforms, their soft and their further ideas.
That might be the beginning of a new VR gambling era. The era when VR would go beyond any expectations, creating something not only true to life, but better than it. 2020 is already here and so is the future we all had been long waiting for.
