Who said Halloween is the only occasion to get scared? Definitely not the designers of the Scary Rich slot. Rival fellas are positive, the good scare is appropriate in any circumstances! So they unleashed the power of the undead to its utmost. So get ready to grab goodies out of the hands of vampires, zombies, skeletons and the rest of the undead crowd! It’s going to be tough, as you can’t really kill the undead! They are already dead! But who said that it’s not worth it?
So let’s start with some basics. At first glance the Scary Rich is nothing but an ordinary 5-reeler with 20 lines. The graphics are typically Rival, meaning nothing over-elaborate, simple, but solid. Let’s say if you have seen one Rival slot, you’ve seen them all. The music is loud. The animation is rather basic but unobtrusive.
Winning here is also pretty much the same as winning at any other slot. Winning combinations should start on the first reel to count. There supposed to be not less than three identical tiles on the line for a legit combo.
The tiles at Scary Rich also consist of regular icons and bonus-infused ones. There are nine regular tiles here. All of those are spooky and feature some undead of supernatural entities. And they are fun! The five Skeletons are paid the least, they are worth only 55 times the line wager. Then comes the Witch. The set of five will be paid 65x the line bet. A Zombie is worth 100 times the wager for five. The same amount of Mummies is paid 150x the bet.
A Jack-a-lantern icon is worth 250x the bet for five. Five Sasquatches are paid 1,000x the stake. A Witch with a lightning is worth the same. A tile featuring a Mad Scientist is paid 1,500 for five. And the last but not the least, the Risen Dead tile with a hand sticking out of the grave is worth symbolical 666x the line wager for a set of five.
The regular tiles are pretty standard, so there is not much to add here. Thus let’s turn to bonus related icons. Here, we get a standard assortment of Scatters. A substitute symbol is Dracula. As always, the Wild replaces a missing tile in a combo. It also comes with a 2x multiplier.
The Scatter icon is a Frankenstein. Get three or more of those and you will be awarded with 10 free games. But the free spins’ mode at Scary Rich is loaded with possibilities. First, the Wild icon becomes expandable. It occupies the whole reel giving you more chances to win. Also, the Wild has a different multiplier at the free mode. Land 1 wild icon and get a standard multiplier — 2x. For two Wilds the multiplier will become 3x. And if you land as many as three wilds during the Free Spin Mode, your wins will be multiplied four times. But mind, that the Wild at Free Game appears on the first three reels only.
The last fancy tile is the Jackpot one. It features a Raven sitting on a graveyard cross. It is the only tile in the game that can form winning combos starting with just two tiles. For the minimum combo your stake gets tripled. For the maximum Raven combo, expect your bet to be multiplied 2,000 times.
The gameplay here is pretty much ordinary. Rival allows us to make some elaborate betting adjustments. If you like to be in control, then it suits you just fine. Choose the lines, choose the number of coins per line, choose the coin value. Everything is up to you! But if the number of coins and the number of lines are pretty much like the rest of the slots by Rival the coin value has only two positions: 0.01 and 0.05. Thus, the total wager may vary for 0.01 to 10.00 only. Some high rollers probably wouldn’t be happy with those numbers, but it suits the rest of the gambling crowd just right. The rest of the interface is identical to other Rival slots. Spinning may be automatic or manual. The Bet max option is here for those who are not good with math. And there is of course a Paytable section to check on the combos and payouts.
As you might have noticed, we described this slot as common or identical in design and features to any other slot more than once in this review. And it is fair. Let’s face it, little are the chances to come up with something new or extraordinary in video slots, right? With standard interface and gameplay what else can be done, to make your spinning experience unique? But at Scary Rich it feels new, chilling fresh and surprisingly fun. Maybe it’s the theme. A bit childish but so funny. Who said only kids are allowed to dress up on Halloween and have fun ravaging their neighbors houses in search of candy? C’mon, we all enjoy doing this. Age is not the matter. Maybe it’s the way this theme is introduced. It’s full of exquisite self-mockery and highly entertaining. Hell knows why we like the slot, but we do. So if you are not scared of a high house edge in this slot leaving you with just above 92% RTP give it a go and have fun!
